LET’S TALK ABOUT IT
Matters of gender and sexuality are a hot topic in today’s society. Although many have strong opinions, there are not enough opportunities to have discussions about gender roles and human sexuality without judgment and condemnation.
The #ClosetConversations series is designed to provide a space for people, regardless of where they stand on these topics, to come together and engage in an open dialogue. The primary goal of this series is not to convert anyone’s perspective, but rather to broaden our awareness and understanding of gender and sexual orientation. In addition, we will discuss how these issues impact the lives of LGBTQ+ people.
- Session 1 – Coming Out: What is LGBTQ+? (June 1st)
This conversation will provide an introduction to gender and sexual orientation. We will define the letters of the acronym and explore sex and gender from biological, psychological, and social perspectives.
- Session 2 – Read for Filth: The Bible, Gender, and Sexuality (June 8th)
Here we will examine what the Bible says about gender, sexual orientation, and romantic relationships.
- Session 3 – Serving Realness: The Lives LGBTQ+ People (June 15th)
We will invite members of the LGBTQ+ community to share their experiences as sexual and gender minorities.
- Session 4 – Let’s Have a Kiki: Family and Chosen Family (June 22nd)
In this session, we will hear from family members of LGBTQ+ people, including blood relatives and those who have created families with LGBTQ+ people.
- Session 5 – Spill the Tea: Strategies for Support (June 29th)
This final conversation will explore how we can support LGBTQ+ people and their families. We will also discuss tools for organizations, churches, and businesses to foster environments in which LGBTQ+ people can thrive.
